Keeping a gorgeous, natural-looking tan can be divided into two parts:
- BEFORE your spray tanning session
- AFTER your spray tanning session
BEFORE
Preparing yourself BEFORE the day of your spray tan will make a HUGE diffence between a tan lasting a few days and much, much longer. |
Exfoliation and DEAD SKIN CELLS |
We are continually shedding dead skin. Exfoliating is a great way to brighten and make fresh your skin. Exfoliating removes the dead surface skin cells. With the average person generating a new layer of skin every two to four weeks, it is important to get-rid-of all those unwanted cells - out with old in with the new!
Without exfoliating, the dead skin cells simply mount up leaving your skin looking very dull and lack-lustre. Through our daily activities a certain amount will fall off naturally. However, without removing them they can clog your SEBACEOUS PORES leading to superficail spots, blackheads or whiteheads.
With the dead skin cells removed the skin looks instantly smoother. It follows that when your skin is smoother a spray tan goes on more evenly.

| How do I exfoliate to maximize my spray Tan?
Here are a set of guide lines on how to exfoliate: |
STEP
Wet your body in the shower or your bath (exfoliating works best when your skin is wet or damp).
Select either:
- A facecloth/washcloth,
- Synthetic scrubbing sponge,
- Body loofah,
- Exfoliating mitt / glove
- An applicator appropriate for your skin type, or
- your fingers
Types of exfoliating include MANUAL, CHEMICAL, MECHANICAL and ENZYME exfoliation (to read more click on each capitalized word). Select which one is appropriate for your type of skin. Apply directly to you body or if using an applicator, directly onto the applicator. If using either the manual or mechanic method, continue below:
Starting at your feet and ankles, use a circular motion with your fingers or applicator.
- Start at your heels; use a little more pressure here than other parts of your body as your heels do take a lot more daily abuse.
- Move to the front of your foot, again using small circular motions making sure the exfoliant is in every pore.
- Apply generous amounts exfoliant to remove all the dead skin.
Move up your legs to your knees and then up to your thighs. Be gentle over the sensitive parts of your body such as your thighs - and later your wrists and neck.
Work towards your heart in circular movements; start at the wrists, then up to the elbows concentrating where dry skin builds up. Move up to your shoulder and neck.
Your back generally receives a lot more sun exposure (due to backless tops, halter-neck clothing and so forth). This tends to create a build up of dead skin cells. Use a medium pressure here. Use a body loofah or exfoliating towel.
Once you have completed your exfoliating, rinse off thoroughly with warm water..
